END OF FINANCIAL YEAR ART OPPORTUNITY

Art lovers have the opportunity to purchase works by Hans Heysen, Nora Heysen, Annette Bezor and George Shepherd under the auspices of business assets at Theodore Bruce Auctions Pty Ltd’s ‘end of financial year’ specialist art sale.

The sale will be held at St Peters Town Hall on Sunday 28 June at 12.00 noon.

The 50 lot auction will follow an offering of approximately 100 lots of sterling silver, jewellery, ivory and collectables.

Paintings on offer include:

An important oil on canvas by James Ashton, Table Rock, Noarlunga. Painted in 1908 and capturing the pristine Noarlunga coastline, Table Rock, Noarlunga includes a geographical feature that has been eroded to such a degree that it is no longer evident today (estimate $7,000-$10,000).
Contemporary works by Annette Bezor, which rarely find their way to the auction market. Offerings include Quiet Violence (est. $8,000-$10,000) and Strange Skies III (estimate $4,000-$5,000), which sit well amongst 20th Century artists such as Gary Shead, Arthur Boyd and John Dowie.
A floral still life by Hans Heysen, Floral Still Life in Crystal Vase, from the Estate of Lady Mary Downer, (estimate $35,000-$40,000), which hangs beside an equally important floral still life by Nora Heysen, (estimate $22,000-$26,000). Both contrast beautifully with two large oil paintings by Marie Tuck, as well as several landscapes by artists including Pro Hart.
A fascinating painting of the London Zoo, circa 1839, by George Shepherd (1784 – 1862) depicting fellows of the London Zoo promenading through Regent Park before an enclosure that includes emus (estimate $2,000-$3,000).
“The opportunity to purchase art under the auspices of business assets enables small business owners to deduct 100% of the purchase price below $20,000 in a single year – which feeds fresh funds in to the Australian art auction market”, said James Bruce, Managing Director.

A cocktail party preview will be held at the St Peters Town Hall, Friday 26 June 4-6pm, and the auction will be on view Saturday 27 June 10.00 am – 4.00 pm and Sunday 28 June from 10.00 am.
