A Successful Mosman Fine Art & Antique Valuation Day
Theodore Bruce specialists were at Mosman Art Gallery on Saturday 1 April to appraise fine art, rare books & prints, Asian & European decorative arts, jewellery & silverware as part of the Hunters and Collectors Valuation and Conservation Day. Thanks go to the gallery for organising this wonderful event – and exciting opportunity for lovers of fine arts, antiques & collectables.
Discovering fine art & antiques in Mosman
Theodore Bruce specialists had a fabulous day appraising fine art, decorative arts, silverware, jewellery & rare books, as part of the Mosman Art Gallery annual Hunters and Collectors Valuation and Conservation Day.
The team met hundreds of enthusiastic gallery goers who each brought one or two pieces in for appraisal.
As usual, we loved meeting so many fine art, antique & book enthusiasts – and seeing so many interesting pieces.
Appraising Fine Art, Books & Antiques
Theodore Bruce specialists Sally Hardy, James Badgery, Tory Page, Casi Prischl & Amelia Scott were on hand to appraise a diverse mix of items including prints & paintings, books, silverware & jewellery – plus Asian & European decorative arts.
Fine art, book & antique appraisals include a discussion and visual assessment of the object to determine it’s origins and check the condition, before providing an estimate of what the item/s might bring at auction.
A few of our favourite pieces
For our team, the day is also a great opportunity to see all of your interesting items – and hear the stories that often bring these objects to life.
Among the selection, we saw a Japanese Meiji period Mille Fiori lidded bowl, engraved & hand painted in gilt, a Russian silver tea set from the late 1800’s, and a stunning pink, white & black porcelain tea service by Shelley, England.
There were colonial paintings of Mosman Bay, a lovely 18th framed silhouette and collectable prints by artists including John Olsen & Pablo Picasso.
From British military paintings… to Bishop’s Rings
The selection was eclectic. A gentleman shared the story of some of his cherished aircraft paintings by a British military artist, acquired in the UK in 1967 – and we saw a striking pot by Peter Travis, an Australian potter & colourist who worked on the New Parliament House in Canberra.
Perhaps our favourite piece of the day was an amethyst & seed pearl gold Bishop’s Ring from the 1880’s – which we are pleased to advise will feature in an upcoming Jewels & Timepieces auction.
