Talking Sporting Collectables

On Wednesday 4 December, Aaron Rimmer, was a guest of Leon Compton on ABC Hobart’s Mornings program. The chat came a day after a collector paid AU$479,700 for a ‘baggy green’ Australian Test cricket cap worn by Sir Donald Bradman in the 1947-48 Home Test series against India. During the test, he became the first Australian to score 100, first-class centuries. Bonhams confirmed that it was “acquired by a private collector who will be retaining it in Australia.”

While signed sporting memorabilia can be popular, it’s items like this that can really do well,” says Aaron, “something with a real connection to sporting history.”

The pair also spoke about the appeal of other collectables – from retro electronics such as Atari and early Macs… to Lego. “There was a time when it was doing better than the dollar.”
