ADELAIDE AFFORDABLE ART
An important watercolour by Sir Hans Heysen of Port Arthur – Tasmania is the highlight of the Theodore Bruce Affordable Art Auction. “It is very rare to have Heysen paint anything other than South Australian landscapes” says James Bruce, Managing Director of Theodore Bruce Auctions, “this painting, completed during Heysen’s “golden period” is a marvellous example of Heysen’s plein air work and is estimated to realise between $12,000/15,000”.
Other works on offer include a Rex Battarbee watercolour (1932) being sold in the company of other Hermannsburg artists, oil paintings by James Cant, Pro Hart and Wlad Dutkiewicz as well as international artists such J. Braun, an American Steam Railway subject, plus works on paper by Sidney Nolan, John Olsen, Lloyd Rees and Robert Campbell to name a few.
The auction includes a section of Papua New Guinean artefacts and concludes with quality household and antique furniture, war medals, and jewellery.
The auction concludes with an offering of an exquisite Australian Colonial furniture including a cedar banquet scale dining table, a Tasmanian cedar sideboard, Sheraton style display cabinet, hall stand side tables, chairs and more, as well as a sterling silver cutlery service, fine crockery, chinaware, crystalware, and collectables.
