ART ASIAN JEWELS HIGHLIGHTS

On a warm April weekend Theodore Bruce’s first Art.Asian.Jewels auction for the year went off with a bang.  The room was full of eager buyers and with over 150 people online there was spirited bidding across every department.  The highlight of the auction was Lot 87 Emile Vernon La Fratrie, Paris 1917 with an estimate of $4000-$6000, with five international phone bidders and internet and in room bidders the painting finally sold to an American buyer for $43,920 IBP.

Other Art highlights included Lot 16 Dora Lynell Wilson Pomegranates $5490 IBP, Lot 33 Kevin Charles (Pro ) Hart Study for the Malley Races  $13,420 IBP, Lot 72 Guy Martin Beckett Boyd  Girl Dressing 1980 cast bronze $4148 IBP and Lot 74 Wallace Anderson Cobbers 1930 cast bronze on marble plinth $3172 IBP.

The Asian section of the auction covered both Japanese and Chinese items with interest in a wide selection of pieces.  Highlights included Lot  103 Two Chinese 19/20th Century ceramic Hat Stands $1830 IBP, Lot 170 an exceptionally fine Japanese Hibachi, in the shape of a large open clam shell, Meiji Period $854 IBP, two rare Burmese Buddha’s also did extremely well selling for $3660 and $5490 IBP.

After consigning a large collection of Gentleman’s wrist watches the Jewellery department had a wonderful selection of both jewels and watches.  The highlights of the Jewels were Lot 216 an Antique 18ct Yellow Gold European Old Cut Diamond Ring $2074 IBP and Lot 237 an 18ct Yellow Gold 4.95ct Marquise Diamond Pendant $18500 IBP while the watch highlights were Lot 272 A Gentleman’s Dubey & Schaldenbrand Gran Chrono Astro wrist watch $2440 IBP and the two Perrelet wrist watches selling for $2440 and $2928 IBP.
