William Buelow Gould, Australia (1803-1853), Still Life, Fruit & Flowers 1851, Oil on canvas on board

Art | Australian & International

Coming in April, our next auction of Australian & International Art will feature two works by 19th Century British-born artist, William Buelow Gould. Transported to Tasmania for theft in 1827, Gould would become one of the premier artists of the new colony, producing a significant body of flower and nature studies at a time when still-life painting was rare in Australia.

Other notable works include pencil drawings by Charles Blackman, oil paintings by Grace Cossington Smith, Pro Hart and William Edward Miller, and David Hockney’s Tulip Stamp from The Culture Carriers Stamp Out Art Project 1971.
