Description:

A Finely Carved Ancestor Figure, Kamoro People, Eastern Mimika Area, South Coast, West Papua (Irian Jaya), Indonesia,
part of a Monumental Mbitoro Ancestor Pole that was used in a ceremony in the early 1980s, the base of this sculpture is missing because that is where it was buried in the ground for almost 1 year while the ceremony was running.

Provenance:
Todd Barlin Field Collected in 1987. These Kamoro artworks were part of the same collection of Asmat & Kamoro Artworks that is now on permanent display at The Musee du Quai Branly Museum in Paris & were exhibited 1996 in the old National Museum of African & Oceanic Art & published in the Louvre Museum Magazine (now part of The Musee du Quai Branly).
