Description:

Orators Chair, Iatmul People, Middle Sepik River, Papua New Guinea,
Orator's chairs or stools were used in the traditional men's Haus Tambarams of the Iatmul people of the middle Sepik River region and used during meetings to discuss important community events such as land disputes and inter clan warfare. The speaker would hold a sheath of 'tungat' leaves which gave him the floor and would strike the stool with the leaves to emphasis a point.
