The Jewels, Silver & Timepieces March Auction will include a selection of Sterling Silver pieces from The Pharazyn Family, a prominent New Zealand Family.

Mr Charles Johnson Pharazyn was born in England in 1802, following the death of his brother and both of his parents Charles was sent to a private school and his education enabled him to join the prominent firm of Lloyds as in insurance broker.  At the age of 39 Charles relocated to Wellington to open a General Store & Emporium which proved a great success and in 1846 the Pharazyn family, now a family of five, relocated to the lush New Zealand countryside.  Their great adventure started when they set foot on the good ship Susannah Ann and after a voyage of discovery along the rugged coastline they stayed at Palliser Bay before moving inland and settling on 26,000 acres of prime sheep country. The family built their farm up to 500 head of sheep and lived a happy and successful life together. Testament to this good life, Charles lived to the ripe old of age of 101 and having lived through almost all of the nineteenth century he died in 1903.

Charles Pharazyn’s hard work enabled him to pass on a sizeable fortune to his son Charles Buckland Pharazyn and In 1910 Charles Junior purchased Warwick House in Nelson where he bred and raced horses with terrific success winning multiple trophies including the esteemed Maitai Trot Trophy in 1918 which is available for sale (shown below).

The Auction also features an 18ct Yellow Gold Repeater Pocket Watch and gold fob chain dated 1905 for The Fielding Cup and a Chinese Silver Box & Cigarette Case presented to one of the 20th Century Pharazyn’s by the Shanghai Police in 1941.
