SPRING ART & DECORATIVE ART AUCTION

Theodore Bruce Auctions Pty Ltd, Australia’s oldest auction house, is to hold a Spring Art Auction at 6.00 pm on Wednesday 24th Septmeber at its auction complex, 46 First Street, Brompton.

Paintings on offer include an important early self-portrait by Brett Whiteley, with prose script, entitled “Me” to the right hand margin.

Additionally works by popular contemporary artist Zhong Chen comprising a large abstract oil on canvas, as well as a figurative work on canvas, with estimates ranging from $7,000 to $10,000.

An important pencil and watercolour sketch by Dorrit Black, “The Adoration”, which was found in a charity print bin four years ago, is expected to fetch $4,000 to $6,000. Other contemporary works include a Sidney Nolan, Tumbling Figures series (triptych), works by James Cant, Pro Hart and Ruth Tuck contrast beautifully with traditional Australian and European oil paintings and works on paper.

Following the 75 lot Art Auction, the Decorative Arts Auction commences with the sale of a taxidermed polar bear standing over 250 cm in height, followed by exquisite Australian Colonial and Victorian English furniture. A Debney cedar mirror backed sideboard discovered during a house move in College Park sits well with a Victorian mahogany five door bookcase, superb Victorian walnut mirror back credenza with white variegated marble top, Polished Blackwood high mirror back sideboard of grand proportions, Georgian mahogany tall boy, mirrored door wardrobes, chests of drawers, music stand and hall stand, followed by an offering of select bric a brac including chinaware, dinner sets, ivory tusk ornament and clock garnitures.

Estate jewellery on offer includes 1.2 ct diamond ring, diamond stud earrings, diamond, ruby, and emerald rings, diamond brooches, fob watch etc concludes the auction which James Bruce, Managing Director of Theodore Bruce Auctions, says is amongst the finest offering of art and decorative arts Theodore Bruce have brought forward for many years.
