Charlotte Smith inherited The Darnell Collection from her godmother Doris Darnell in 2004, over the last 10 years she has out her own stamp on it. With the help of tireless promoting, exhibitions and talks Charlotte has built The Darnell Collection up to be the most well-known vintage fashion collection in the world, but now it is time for the collection to take a different path and take on a new name. The Charlotte Smith Collection as well as the new vision for the future of the collection will be launched on Thursday 20 November at 6pm in our Sydney showrooms.
Theodore Bruce are proud to be a part of vintage fashion history by offering over 1000s pieces of the original Darnell collection for auction on Sunday 23 November at 11am completely unreserved. The sale boasts 520 lots of garments, accessories and collectibles including jewellery lace, silver, hats, bags, shoes, christening clothes, artist design sketches, fabric, buttons, beads and study pieces. Jewellery highlights include An Art Deco diamond and tourmaline ring by Tiffany, A Boulder Opal and Garnet collar and A Victorian 9ct Gold Ruby and Diamond Ring.
Garments showcase design styles and outfits from the Victorian and Edwardian era right through to modern Designers, most of which are original Doris Darnell bequests. These include key designers such as Dior, Pucci and Ceil Chapman as well as many collectible Australian designers such as Vivian Chan Shaw, Sally Brown, Lisa Ho, George Gross and Harry Who with many gowns worn by Mezzo Soprano Magreta Elkins.
