The John Yu AC Collection of Asian Art

Dr John Yu AC is a retired paediatrician, a former Chief Executive of the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children (which became the New Children’s Hospital, Westmead) and a respected expert on Chinese and Southeast Asian decorative arts.

Dr Yu has chaired and served on diverse bodies related to children’s health, education, medicine and the arts. He was Chair of the Australia-China Council from 2001 to 2006, the Founding Chair of VisAsia, and in 2006 he was made a Life Governor of the Art Gallery of NSW. He is also an Honorary Associate in Textiles and Ceramics and a Life Fellow of the Powerhouse Museum.

Collected over the last 40 years across Asia and from auction sales in London, western Europe and the USA, this wonderful collection includes antique Chinese pottery, Southeast Asian stoneware and a small selection of Indonesian textiles.
