Description:

A 1929 Marmon Roosevelt Collapsible Coupe Chassis number n/a
Engine number T 21295788A

Marmon is a rare American manufacturer and its automobiles were only produced between 1902 and 1933, its closure brought about by the economic strain of the Great Depression. Despite being little remembered and of limited production numbers the cars themselves were of considerable quality. In the gaunt 'Parker' novel, 'The Outfit' by Richard Stark (aka Donald E. Westlake) written in 1963, thirty years after the demise of the marque, the Marmon was already a rarity,

"The car's hot in Florida, and the plates are hot in Alabama, but the plates are off a LaSalle, so you go nothing to worry about."
"LaSalle? There's still some of them around?"
"Give me three days around here, Parker, I'll find you a Marmon."

Marmons were built in Indianapolis and in 1911 the Marmon Wasp driven by company engineer Ray Harroun won the inaugural Indy 500.

It is thought that there are less than 600 Marmons in total worldwide.

The 1929 Marmon Roosevelt collapsible coupé with rumble-seat is a very rare car and this example offered is believed to be one of just four worldwide still extant. After sitting in a shed in Bendigo, Victoria for 40 years this vehicle finally underwent an extensive 2 1/2 year restoration to body and Straight 8 engine in the late 1990s. since when it has been preserved in a 'carcoon' in as new condition.
