A Black Raku Tea Bowl, Chawan, Itoh Keiraku b. 1932, Impressed Seal to base, Kyoto, Japan, 1960-80
a hand-built tea bowl with a generous waist and slightly inturned mouth, and an overall black raku glaze.
Note:
When firing Raku the bowl is removed red hot from the kiln and plunged into water. Raku chawans are one of the most highly regarded types of tea bowls in Japan.
