Description:

A Fine 19th Century Club, Western New South Wales,
old, glossy patina, stand not included.

  • Provenance: Colonial Scottish family Gillanders and Orr, Western New South Wales. These families collectively owned two sheep stations in Tullamore, west of Narromine. The farms were called Alalagah and Old Alalagah and were amalgamated in the early 1900's. They were run by three siblings who never married: Dorothy; Charlie and Cyril Gillander. There is a trove reference to Dorothy in the late 1930's in the local show as a breeder of war horses. Originally the Gillander family owned Highfield Castle in Invernate, Scotland.
There was a billabong on the property and a tribe of Aborigines lived there. A wedding took place on Old Alalagah and these items were presented to the bridal couple as gifts. This wedding occurred around 1870.
This record was relayed to the vendor by Garry Allan Oats, he is in his late 70's. His father, Allan Douglas Oats bought the farm in the 1940's and he acquired the items from the three siblings who had lived on the farm since birth.

Provenance information supplied by the vendor.
  • Dimensions: 72.5 x 5.5 cm
