Description:

A Fine Chinese Hanging Scroll, Ink & Colour on Paper, Inscription & Signature & Two Red Seals, Dated 1903, Fan Zhenxu [1872-1960]
a young boy distracted from his books - looking out the window as an elder is instructing another boy in the garden, turned wood terminals
Note:
Fan Zhenxu was a successful candidate in the Imperial examinations, Jinshi, and became a Mandarin Official in Guangxu Period that ended in 1908. He went on to be a politician after the fall of the Qing Dynasty. It is possible that he was a Mandarin painter of the Qing Court.

Fan Zhenxu did not start his painting career until 1916, at the Rongbaozhai Studio in Beijing. The style and calligraphy in this painting are unlike the work he is best known for, the painting is dated 1903.
Remounted at the Academy of Art, Beijing in 1990s.
56 x 54 cm
