A Very Rare Chinese Polychrome Carved Timber Figure of Guan Yin, The Goddess of Mercy, 17th Century,
Guan Yin is portrayed as the mythic Goddess of Mercy & is China's most beloved deity. This figure was purchased from a leading antique dealer in Tokyo. Its origins can be traced back to China specifically Zhejiang Province, the main port of which, Ningbo, was actively trading with Japan predominantly during the Genroku era (1688-1704) the Chinese traders were living permanently in Edo (present-day Tokyo).

  • Dimensions: H 110 cm
  • Condition: missing finger tip, splits to timber, loo to polychrome, wear consistent with age
