Basket Hook Figure, Middle Sepik River Area, Papua New Guinea,
this finely carved basket hook figure with a skeletal figure resting on top the crescent shaped hook with incised ancestral faces. The figure is flanked on both sides by totemic. The skeletal figure is missing the head was originally a separate piece that would have inserted into the body (long missing) The back side of the figure is also fully three dimensional. This was carved by a very talented master carver.

Sold for the benefit of Lifeline Northern Beaches, part of the Lifeline Australia organisation providing Crisis Support for Australians since 1963.
