  • Provenance: The Artist arrived in Melbourne in 1971 and became a research neuroscientist. His career was based on an active hands-on approach to experimental work; which was an aspect maintained until he I retired in 2006. He has have published over 100 scientific papers, reviews and book chapters in international peer-reviewed journals and has given over 60 invited Keynote lectures at international conferences devoted to medical research. During his scientific career he was visiting Research Professor at University College, London; Oxford University; University of Nagoya; Nagoya City University; University Of Arizona; University of Nevada; Stanford University.

    After retiring, Hirst started painting full time. Following advice from his friend, the artist Graham Fransella, he started a Certificate 3 course at CAE in 2009 and converted this to a Diploma of Visual Arts, which was awarded in 2012, majoring in Painting and Sculpture.
