Five Fine Antique New Guinea Wealth Ornaments,
Including:
- A Fine Oro Province Chiefs Boars Tusk Necklace.
- A Fine Old Fofona Woven & Shell Decorated Chest Ornament from Bena Bena area Eastern Highlands Province.
- A Superb Old Red Kina Shell Pendant in its original bark wallet from the Southern Highlands Province.
- & Two Fine Old Shell Headbands from the Eastern Highlands Province. These types of very fine old shell ornaments from the Highlands of Papua New Guinea were rare to find in the villages in the 1980s when I field collected these. Old people still highly valued them but they were never to be remade as in previous generations.

Old Shell Ornaments in New Guinea were an important type of traditional wealth that families accumulated and used for bridal payments or to pay as compensation for disputes and to be given away during the funeral ceremonies of important clan leaders. Shell ornaments also retained oral histories of how they were acquired and used & they were worn during ceremonies to impress people.
