Maxwell handed down his report in March 1954 and the government quickly followed his recommendations with new legislation, extending trading hours and effectively bringing an end to the era of six o'clock closing in New South Wales, bound in black cloth, gilt title and owners name stamped on front board 'J.W.Smyth Q.C', Jack Smyth was considered by many as the greatest trial lawyer that the New South Wales Bar has produced, some underlining in red, perhaps by Smyth [2]
