Description:

Rainforest Shield, Far North Queensland This magnificent shield in original condition is decorated with a wide palate of natural ochres, including black, red, brown, white and yellow. The design, the meaning of which is unknown, would have related to the makers ancestral heritage and creation story and have been his personal possession. This shield shows evidence of considerable use, exhibiting wear patina on the handle and portions of the perimeter.

Provenance: Property of the Estate of a private collector, Sydney.
Purchased from Lawson Tribal Art Auctions in the early 1980's. Ht, 93 cm
