Stella Southern (b.1899) Scrapbook,
Stella Southern was an Australian actor best known for her performances in the silent films of the 1920's. She was originally from Sydney and was discovered by Beaumont Smith who cast her in 'The Man from Snowy River' in 1920. Her real name was Lucy Emma Winks, she chose her stage name "Stella Southern" which means "star of the south". In 1921 she married New Zealand film director Harrington Reynolds in Auckland and she went on to appeared in a number of productions on stage in Brisbane. The scrap album includes an autographed publicity photograph, three 1924 Brisbane theatre programmes from the productions she played in + Typed copy of Contract between New Zealand Film Enterprises Limited and Stella Southern dated August 1921 for her appearance in the film 'The Birth of New Zealand' & numerous newspaper clippings
