Description:

Two Fine Old Canoe Paddle Finials, Coastal Sepik River, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea, Mid-20th Century or Earlier,
the one on the left is a very beautiful Janus Birdman Figure standing back-to-back. The right one in the form of an ancestor's torso & looks like he is in a Crocodiles mouth. Beautifully carved canoe paddles were given a special finial usually of ancestor who watches over your travels, when the paddle blade is broken the finials are always kept as an heirloom and reminder of the family member, often a grandfather who had carved it.
