Description:

A 1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SL roadster Chassis: WDB1070452A005473

The Mercedes-Benz 380SL roadster was available form 1980 to 1985. Powered by a 3.8 litre engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection it was capable of 215 km/h. Fast, powerful yet refined and very civilised this was a mature sports car for those appreciate the finer things in life and want to live to enjoy them.

In 1983 Alan Bond celebrated winning the America's Cup with 'Australia II' defeating the USA boat 'Liberty' to end US hegemony and the longest winning streak in sporting history, by purchasing a Mercedes-Benz 380SL roadster. The car as shown by the owner's handbooks was in the name of his wife Eileen, 'Big Red' as she was known. This immaculately presented and most original vehicle was a special order black over grey and has now travelled 157,000 kms since the late Mr Bond who passed away in June 2015 first sat behind the wheel. A wonderful opportunity to own not only an intrinsically magnificent Mercedes-Benz but also a slice of Australian social history. Complete with soft and hard tops.
