Description:

Two Fine Old Woven and Nassa Shell Ornaments from the Lumi or Au People in the Torricelli Mountain Area of the West Sepik Province of Papua New Guinea,
these are two of my favourite wealth ornaments in my collection, first they are of a beautiful form, finely woven from tree bark string with yellow & brown orchid stems to give it the beautiful yellow & brown patterning then the edges are finely stitched with two rows of fine old Nassa shells. The back of these had loops where one might put their arms through and perhaps, they were occasional worn for important ceremonial occasions.

I am sure they were treasured family heirlooms of significant tradition wealth value.
