Description:

Two Superb Old Somo Cooking Pot, Probably Urigina People, Madang Province, Papua New Guinea, 19th to Early 20th Century,
these pottery vessels sometimes called "Bullet Pottery" because of the shape; they were meant to have their bottom buried in the sand to keep upright. These are the finest examples of this type of pottery vessel that I have ever seen the years of my collecting New Guinea Art. The forms are superb and with fine incised designs and decoration around the neck of the pottery vessels.
